Production History

Play Ground Theatre Company and Soul-stice Repertory Ensemble were founded in 1992 by Heidi Cline McKerley.  All productions were presented in the Backstage Theatre at 7 Stages in Atlanta, Georgia, between 1992-2002.

The Play Ground Theatre Company existed initially, and the focus was two-fold:  (a) to produce classical plays, and (b) to explore ensemble through the creation of socially relevant original scripts that were generated through a group writing process. The company staged nine shows, providing work for 200+ artists between 1992-1994.

After producing for three years, Play Ground Theatre Company decided to further explore the power of ensemble with the creation of a once-a-year classical repertory.  This transition inspired three things: a name change, the construction of a mission statement, and obtaining a 501(c)3 non-profit status.

The mission statement of

  1. Soul-stice Repertory Ensemble read:

We are a company of theatre artists united to produce passionate theatre in an intimate, bare-bones setting.  We choose to tackle the most challenging material available in our quest for shared growth as an ensemble.  Our emphasis rests on the actor and the text.  Our strength:  finding the true emotions within the actor to bring the language home to you.  We embrace the repertory format as a healthy catalyst for the ensemble’s continued enrichment.

This goal succeeded by involving each participating artist in two of three shows produced during our annual repertory. The company staged thirty shows in eight repertories, providing work for 250+ artists.

2020 welcomes the rebirth of Soul-stice Repertory Ensemble as Soul-stice Repertory Ensemble 2.0, inspired by the ease of reaching audiences through online streaming applications, and realizing the need for a theatre which focuses on theatrical classics.  Heidi and Jeff McKerley will be serving as Co-Producing Artistic Directors.  Venturing into becoming a producing organization again is an enormous commitment during this precarious time and implores the need to investigate interest and support.  Soul-stice Repertory Ensemble 2.0 plans to begin their new journey by initially producing a benefit fundraising repertory.  To expedite the complicated 501(c)3 process, Soul-stice has partnered with C4 Atlanta to solicit donations by using their non-profit status.

It's time to REvive, REjuvenate, REbound, and REturn with Soul-stice Repertory Ensemble 2.0!
